A Flashback to Fashion Week - Spring/Summer 2018

As I flipped through this month’s Harpers Bazaar, I decided a compilation of the spring and summer fashion week standouts could be a fun subject to cover. Recasting decades for 2018 comes through in everything from athleisure looks to shoulder pads. While one of my favorite things to put together is a “street style look,” non-apologetically dressing up is on trend— I’m ecstatic! If there were ever a time to experiment with your style alongside trends, now is the time to go for it. Just like the Spice Girls, it seems that any persona could be translated into your style in 2018. Bold Colors or Pastels? Florals (cue Devil Wears Prada quote) or Plaid? Yellow or the Pantone color of the year— lavender? All of these and more can be incorporated into this season. Old rules about fashion are left at the door and the new crop of eclecticism has arrived.
Bring on the Sunshine
This year I’ve been inspired to step out of my own comfort zone by adding yellow into my closet. Not only does it mimic the presence of sunshine, but it packs a double punch of bold color choice while being a classic on the color wheel. My top goal: not ending up looking like an actual Sesame Street character, particularly a large feathered friend.

Other colors to give a try: “ice cream hues” or just about any shade of purple!
Check It Out

Checks are going to be here year-round with tartan, gingham, and a mix of plaids. There is a check pattern for any occasion or personality. It’s retro and versatile which makes this pattern the greatest statement or basic for the season. Bringing out the color is what will make this a summer twist that Cher Horowitz would approve of.

This season, the military and utilitarian comes complete with trench coats and cargo pockets. Ranging from earthy-beiges to blush and lavender, the trench coat makes for a stylish addition to a casual look. Repurposing this jacket for spring could involve a ruffle or some embroidery. Bonus points for a jacket this spring that features an embellishment, because who couldn’t use a little something extra?

I'm a born and raised Arkansas girl who found herself drawn to Oxford, MS three years ago. It's there that I discovered IMC in the Meek School of Journalism and New Media, which began my journey towards brand consulting and social media content drafting. With the support of my friends and family, I remain excited and positive about the opportunities still to come! In an ever-changing marketplace, I get the opportunity to enter the workforce when so many miraculous transitions in business and marketing are resulting. It is my goal/hope/aspiration that this page functions as a way for those who have not met me, or may not know me well, to get some insight into what I'm passionate about. A lifestyle blogs purpose, in general, is similar to why I want to work with branding to begin with. What can you see in a consumer? What can be found in a product in actuality and sentimentally? Who is your company's culture appealing to when all is said and done? These are questions that should bring inspiration. If it became my job to aid in finding that stimulus, what an amazing thing to be a part of!
